Welcome to Niota
A message from Mayor Lois Preece ...
Welcome to the City of Niota! Niota is a small, but growing, friendly city that is full of history, located in McMinn County.
The oldest standing train depot in Tennessee is located here. The Depot was built in1854 and used by both the Union and Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. Now it is a beautiful venue with a historical flare, available for events. (Rental information is available on this site). Niota is also the home of the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote. A mural depicting this event is located on a building across from the Depot. The Depot also houses a gift shop open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm offering you a convenient place to purchase unique items. Currently, we are working on establishing a museum inside the Depot, to highlight our rich history.
For individual and family activities, Niota has a small playground with swings and a big play structure designed for younger children. Surrounding this area is a walking path. There is also a pad with basketball hoops for additional activities.
We are an active community hosting numerous festivals and other seasonal events that are described on this website. Niota may be small but has a great deal to offer, please come out and take part and enjoy our community, we will be glad to see you!
If you are looking to become involved in your community, think about volunteering to work on our events committee. Just call City Hall, we would love to hear from you!
